Some kids can be extremely hard to buy for, especially those who are getting older but not quite to their teen years. For these children the following ideas are bound to come in handy. Let the countdown begin.
Top 10 Gifts for Children Under Twelve: #10
A new pet is a sign of responsibility. Most children will respond well to the idea of taking care of something smaller than they are. A puppy, kitten, or hamster can be a great investment that will show your child that you have faith in her/his ability to be responsible.
Top 10 Gifts for Children Under Twelve: # 9
Every child has a favorite fictional character so, a movie collection or series could be a nice surprise. So whether they like Scooby Doo, Sponge Bob, the Rugrats or all things Disney this idea is sure to put a smile on their face.
Top 10 Gifts for Children Under Twelve: # 8
Most children like to express themselves artistically. If this is the case with the child you are buying for an art station would be a wonderful gift. It should come complete with an easel, non toxic water based paint, canvas boards, a set of brushes, a sketch pad, and colored pencils.
Top 10 Gifts for Children Under Twelve: # 7
It has been my experience that all children love sleepovers. Especially, if they get to do it outside. A new camping set equipped with a large multi room tent, sleeping bag, and goodie sets (like smores, summer sausages etc.) would be not only a fantastic gift for your child but for all of their his/her friends as well. There is just something super cool about a backyard sleepover.
Top 10 Gifts for Children Under Twelve: # 6
A themed bedroom set for children under twelve can prove to be highly rewarding. The feel of something new and clean is a great way to start the new year. Whether it is cartoon characters, race cars, camouflage pattern, or a movie theme this is always a pretty safe bet that this particular gift will go over well.
Top 10 Gifts for Children Under Twelve: # 5
Every child that I know loves the idea of having their own space outside of the house. So a tree house or club house would be a perfect way to show them that you care about their independence. If you want to go beyond the normal standard include battery operated light sources, posters, and furnishings such as bean bags. It doesnt have to be that big to satisfy.
Top 10 Gifts for Children Under Twelve: # 4
Electric Riders are very popular. For the smaller kids the Barbie/G. I. Joe vehicles are great but for children between 9 and 12 would be much happier with the Quad Racer style. There are several models to choose from and most retail stores that carry bicycles will usually have them in stock. But check early as you may have to reserve one during this hectic time of year.
Top 10 Gifts for Children Under Twelve: # 3
Game consoles are all the rage especially with new Nintendo and Play Station 3. Upon purchasing this gaming unit you may want to also get a gift certificate to your local video game store for your child to pick out a few of their favorite games.
Top 10 Gifts for Children Under Twelve: # 2
There are some rather inexpensive learning laptops for children under twelve. By getting this for your child youre not only helping their academic skills get stronger but also giving them a seemingly grown up responsibility by having their very own laptop. This is one of those gifts that can make your life a whole lot easier especially when it comes to traveling, vacations, and the boredom that usually sets in frequently among children in this age group.
Top 10 Gifts for Children Under Twelve: # 1
And the number one gift is of course a Disneyland vacation. By gathering all the information and verification of a planned family trip to this popular resort and wrapping it in the prettiest package under the tree you can really make their little eyes light up. A fun thing to do is to have them open consecutive gifts with the Disney theme prior to opening up the vacation in a box.

Christmas Craft for Children and Adults
This is a great Christmas decoration craft that is just so cute! It is suitable for children as young as five, fun, inexpensive and festive. These snowmen ornaments will fit perfectly on to your Christmas tree or can be used as Christmas gift tags. This is an ideal Christmas craft for children and adults.
The first step you need to take in making your Christmas snowmen craft is to gather the materials. Nothing fancy is required and you can miss and match colours, so it is perfect for those small felt pieces that you want to do something with. You will need the following items: large craft sticks, small twigs from your garden, black and white acrylic paints, orange tooth picks, felt in a variety of festive colours, glittery chenille sticks, shiny or sparkly pom poms, black craft foam, small buttons or sequins, ribbon, hot glue gun, thin felt tipped marker and scissors.
Once you have placed all your materials on your crafting table it is time to prepare the individual pieces. First you will want to paint the craft sticks white and set them aside to dry. Once that is done take your twigs and break them into three inch long pieces, making two per snowman. Stick the twigs or what is now known as the snowmens arms safely aside while you create the noses. To make the snowmen ornament noses you will need the orange toothpicks. Cut one inch pieces off the end of the toothpick one per snowman. When you have completed the noses decide how many of your snowmen you want to have hats and how many you want to have earmuffs. Then take the black craft foam and cut out the required number of hats.
After you have created your Christmas snowmens individual pieces it is time to begin putting it all together. First you will want to create the snowmans face, for this you have two options. You can take the wrong end of a paintbrush, dip it in black paint and make dots on the craft stick to form the eyes and the mouth or you can make the dots with a marker. After you have created the snowmans face it is time to give him his nose. To do this simple take an orange toothpick piece and glue it to the craft stick between the eyes and mouth.
The next step is the snowman ornaments scarf; here you have some room to add your own touches. Choose a colour from your supply of felt and cut out a scarf. You will want ensure it is long enough to wrap around the craft stick and form into your preferred shape. For example you can simply let the scarf hang down or you can pull it out sideways and glue the ends together so it looks as if the snowmans scarf is blowing in the wind. You can even cut some fringe into the end of the scarf.
When you completed the Christmas snowmans scarf move on to his headgear. For this you can either give him a hat or earmuffs. If you are giving your snowman a hat simply take one of the hats you have cut out and glue it to his head (the top of the craft stick). If you would rather give your snowman craft ornament earmuffs begin by cutting a piece of chenille stick that will fit around the top of the craft stick and then glue it in place. Following that glue one pom pom to each side of the snowmans head to form the muffs.
After your Christmas snowman has a warm head you will want to make sure he is all buttoned up! To do this use two or three buttons or pieces of sequins, glue them to the body of your snowman. Voila he has a coat!
Now it will be time for the finishing touches. Cut a piece of ribbon between 8 and 10 inches long. Next fold the ribbon in half and glue it to the back of your snowmans head. This creates the hanger. After the hanger is completed finish your snowman off by gluing the twigs to the body giving him arms and then set him aside to dry.
These snowmen are a super cute Christmas decoration craft that you and your children will enjoy. They can be hung on the Christmas tree or used as gift tags. To use them as gift tags simply write the name of the recipient on the back of the snowman and attach it to the gift. Another suggestion for this Christmas decoration craft is using fabric instead of felt for the snowmans scarf. These can add some real character to your snowmen with striped, poka dots, or Christmas patterns. There is no doubt you will enjoy this family Christmas craft.

Valentine's Day Gift Ideas for Children
If you want to buy a special Valentine gift for your child, grandchild, favorite relative or friend, or for a whole group, the possibilities are limitless. Whether you're planning to build your own Valentine gift, plan a Valentine party, provide Valentine cards for your children to take to school, or need to mail order a Valentine's package for that distance loved one, try these ideas-many of them cost effective and creative. The places to shop include Rite Aid, JC Penney, Sears, Target, Elaine's, WaldenBooks, and Hello Kitty. Online consider Amazon.com, Harry & David, Mint Box, Carnival Source, Suzy's Zoo, Pottery Barn Kids, Erna's Gifts, and Sugar Plum Gifts. One thing I'll say upfront, only a few stores are providing Valentine's theme gifts at this time, many of the mail order sites say they are, but for children, the items are provided without the red hearts packaging you expect for the holiday. Cool items to include are cosmetics, jewelry and gear, socks, books, candy, and stuffed animals.
Build Your Own
Right now, many retail stores have sales on a variety of products suitable for filling out a Valentine's basket of your own at savings. The most inexpensive way to package it all is to buy gift bags that cost about $2 in the gift-wrap sections of most stores. If you're planning to mail the items, think about using a seasonal mail order envelope from the Postal Service, Hallmarks or Fred Meyer and selecting lightweight, flat items to include in the packages. Doing so will help reduce your shipping costs. Mother's should consider holding a party with several of their friends to help cut costs by buying packages and sharing the individual items amongst several Valentine's baskets. If you want to have fun but don't have grandchildren yet, think about holding a basket building party for charity.
Cosmetics and Gear
JC Penney had 30% off and Sears had a buy one get 1 half-priced winter sale on lotion, toilet water and other cosmetics, average price $10 before the sale. Elaine's has a buy 2 get 1 free, and buy 1 get 1 free sale on various items like packaged lip gloss, fingernail polish, jewelry and the like, proving why this store is a favorite for girls. See picture 1. For boys, you might consider the sporting stores post-football season sales. Target has cute girls socks with hearts with an average price of about $2.
Jewelry
For more expensive enclosures, all the jewelry stores have diamonds, rubies, garnets and heart offerings, many at 30-75% off normal prices with many of them offering deals through January.
Books
Waldenbooks currently has a Manga book sale where you buy four books and get a fifth book free. Waldenbook also has a rack of seasonal themed books-see picture 2. Amazon.com also has many Valentine's themed books.
Candy
The best candy offering I found was at Rite Aid with a huge selection, their best sale was 75% off of chocolate covered cherries. Expect area grocery stores to have similar supplies and values. Target has many candy offerings priced at a $1.00 that are suitable for quieting a child while shopping but also make good add-ons for a basket. See picture 3.
Stuffed Animals
Rite Aid had many small stuffed animals. The cutest stuffed animals I found were at Hallmark including two singing frogs on a lily pad and a hairy love beast. See picture 4. Target had stuffed animals in their $1.00 offerings.
The Mint Box website has a similar idea with lip gloss, mints, and tins with toys inside called toy trunks. The web site requires 2 weeks for delivery and free personalization. Average cost is 1.50 for a single item and10.50 for a four pack.
Providing cards for school
Rite Aid and Carlton cards had packages of 20 Valentine cards, some designed for boys i.e. Transformers, Pirates of the Caribbean, some for girls, Bratz, Disney and other things like i.e. jeweled tattoos. Tattoo packs and sticker packs are an alternative idea. Hello Kitty has a small number of Valentine's supplies and Valentine's cards with cute fuzzy hearts to include inside. See picture 5. Fifty Valentine's cards from Amazon.com costs $5.
Suzy's Zoo website provides a richer variety of Valentine's cards at a reduced price. If you have a neighbor with children, you might want to get together with them to reduce your overall price since there is a minimum order of $15. She also has sticker packages.
Favors and Supplies for a Theme Party
Carnival Source website has many gift ideas to provide at a Valentine's party as favors. The most expensive item was $40 for a dozen mugs with plush toys. Carnival Source has many packages of twelve item cookies, toys, cards, stuffed animals, light up flowers, hearts and the like with an average price of about $8. These items could be added to fill a basket above, too.
The Pottery Barn Kids website has tablecloths, napkins, cups in packages averaging in cost from $15-60 for Valentine's.
Mail Order Gifts and Baskets
Harry & David's is one of my favorite mail order gift basket companies, including many items for Valentine's Day. I've ordered through them, had terrific items and no problems. Harry & David have towers-three or more boxes of items wrapped individually and delivered together that makes everyone feel special. Harry & David's chocolate towers and brittle boxes are $25.00 on sale and $50 for the larger Royal chocolate tower with boxed petit fours priced at $20. Harry and David's have other items in the same range. They also have two Mini-Cookie collections for $34.95 if mailed to same address but without Valentine packaging.
Erna's Gifts has several Valentine's gift baskets, the cutest being a $24.00 mug with teddy bear and goodies.
Sugar Plum Gifts has more deluxe Valentine's gifts many with Hershey's Hugs and Kisses, toys, balloons and mugs.

Top 10 Gift Ideas for Kindergarten Teachers
My Mom has been a kindergarten teacher for close to 12 years now (after having taught forth and sixth grades for several years), and I've witnessed the good, the bad, and the ugly of her teacher gifts. As a result, I'm here to help you not make a faux pas in selecting a gift for your child's kindergarten teacher this Christmas, or any kindergarten teacher in your life for that matter.
1. A Lasting Art Project Made By Your Child (And You).
All that is needed here is a little creativity and a little planning. If you are into scrapbooking, why not make a decorative page that includes pictures of your child and the teacher, or a picture of the teacher with his or her entire class? Once the page is finished, frame it and it will make a wonderful teacher's gift. Chances are that it will be displayed in the classroom for years to come. There are endless opportunities here, but I would advise choosing a project that your child enjoys as well. In that way, he or she can contribute to their teacher's present.
2. Handmade or Personalized Gift Basket.
There are two main options here. One, you go to a craft store and purchase a nice basket. Then, have your child help you pick out several smaller items with which to fill the basket. Chances are, he or she will know what the teacher will enjoy, at least to a certain extent. The second option is to go a specialty gift store and have a personalized gift basket made for the teacher. In either case, both are better options than a generic gift basket that you can pick up anywhere. A note or picture from your child is always a nice touch as well.
3. Personalized Ornament.
A personalized ornament is always a great gift. Here in Michigan, we have a company called Bronners. Bronners, located in Frakenmuth, has a year-round Christmas store (really, a Christmas wonderland) and they sell keepsake personalized glass bulb ornaments in just about every color and design. Fortunately, for those not living in Michigan, they have a great website and on-line store. You can easily order and pay on-line. I even ordered from them when I lived in Texas. The website is included in the resources section of this article.
4. Home Decor Items.
This idea can be a bit difficult to pull off successfully if you don't know the teacher well. However, if you don't know the teacher well, you can always get a nice, neutral gift that could go with any decor. Simply refrain from themed items. On the other hand, if you know the teacher's taste in home decor, this can be an easy option. For example, if you know that they teacher on your list is an antique collector, why not go to the nearest antique mall or antique dealer and purchase a few smaller decorative items? Put together, it would make a great gift.
5. Give a Gift to the Classroom Instead.
Did you volunteer in the classroom this fall and notice some items that would be of use in the classroom? If so, why not put together a package of items for the classroom? If you haven't been in the classroom enough to know what is needed, simply ask the teacher. Most teachers would be more than happy to tell you what is needed and how to go about donating to the classroom. Teachers are always happy when people remember their students.
6. Dinner and A Movie.
All teachers need a night out every now and then, especially teachers with small children of their own. Why not purchase movie passes and/or a gift certificate to a nice restaurant? If you really hate the thought of just giving gift certificates, there are ways to put them together into a nice, interesting package. For example, I've seen movie passes packaged in a popcorn bucket with packages of junior mints and microwave popcorn. It makes giving certificates a little less boring. The best part, I've seen it done for under $30.
7. A Simple Thank You Note and Baked Goods.
A simple thank you note and a package of decorated sugar cookies is always a great gift. Teachers always appreciate being acknowledged for all that they do for their students throughout the year. It may be their job, but it is always nice to be appreciated for a job well-done. Have your child get into the act too. If he or she is beginning to write, have them write a thank you note to the teacher as well. If the child doesn't yet know how to write or is more artistic, have he or she paint or draw a picture for the teacher. You can't go wrong with this idea.
8. Desk Items.
A coffee mug full of personalized pencils, decorative picture frames, a nice nameplate, or an apple paperweight are always good gift ideas for a teacher. Personalize if at all possible. Lillian Vernon offers a wide variety of just such items. I highly recommend ordering from them on-line. The web address in the resources section of this article.
9. Think Hobbies - Yours or the Teacher's.
Do you have a hobby - such as candle-making, knitting, scrapbooking, sewing, etc. - that you could use to make a unique gift for the kindergarten teacher on your list? If so, go for it! It may even inspire the teacher to get crafty his or herself. Better yet, does the teacher have a hobby? If so, purchase supplies or guide that he or she may need in their endeavors. That always makes a great gift!
